Description
This is the historic Oak Alley Plantation located on the Mississippi River in Vacherie, Louisiana. An "alley" of live oak trees gives the plantation its popular name. It was originally known as Bon Séjour Plantation when it was first established by Valcour Aime in 1830 to grow sugarcane. Early in the 18th century, long before the present house was built, a double row of live oaks about 800 feet (240 meters) long was planted. The "alley" of magnificent trees runs between the house and the Mississippi River. It's quite a sight!
